چکیده

Determination of residual natural waxes and processing lubricants on yarns and fabrics has traditionally been accomplished by Soxhlet extraction with an organic solvent. A variety of concerns about these solvents has driven a search for alternative methods. Hydrocarbon solvents; e.g., petroleum ether, are flammable and the manufacture of chlorofluorocarbon solvents was phased out in 1996 as a result of their effect on the ozone layer. Purchase and disposal of chlorinated solvents such as 1 ,I ,1-trichloroethane (TCE) are costly. One possible solution to this problem is to use a nontoxic supercritical fluid, carbon dioxide, as a medium for extracting materials from textile substrates. This paper describes development of a supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) method for the quantitative determination of natural cotton wax, paraffin winding wax, and knitting oil from cotton fibers, yarns, and fabrics. Analysis of the extracts by various analytical methods, including differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, gas chromatography (GC), and gas chromatographylmass spectrometry (GC/MS) techniques are also presented.

EXTRACTION, FATTY ACID PROFILE AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF SESAME EXTRACT (Sesamum Indicum L.)

This article carried out the extraction of sesame oil by using three extraction techniques: supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), Soxhlet and sequential extraction. The SFE was performed using supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) as solvent and ethanol as cosolvent. Tests were performed at 20 MPa, 35°C and a flow rate of 2.5 g CO2/min with a total extraction time of 210 minutes. The Soxhlet ex...

Extraction of the Antimalarial Artemisinin from Artemisia Annua L. Leaves with Supercritical Co2

The antimalarial artemisinin, the active principle of the plant Artemisia annua L., was extracted by Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE). Soxhlet extraction was studied as comparison processes. The extracts were analyzed by the indirect method GC-FID. The maximal extraction yield (1.82%DW) was obtained by SFE at T=40°C, P=200bar, CO2flow=4.5g/min, and 20% ethanol as modifier. The artemisinin e...

Supercritical Fluid Extraction and Characterisation of Essential Oil from Moringa Oleifera Leaves

This work was aimed to extract and characterise the essential oils presented in the leaves of Moringa Oleifera using supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) and compare the results against those using the conventional Soxhlet extraction method. The oils extracted were analysed using GC-MS. The compounds were identified according to their retention indices and mass spectra (EI, 70eV). The effects o...

Comparisons of soxhlet extraction, pressurized liquid extraction, supercritical fluid extraction and subcritical water extraction for environmental solids: recovery, selectivity and effects on sample matrix.

Extractions of a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)-contaminated soil from a former manufactured gas plant site were performed with a Soxhlet apparatus (18 h), by pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) (50 min at 100 degrees C), supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) (1 h at 150 degrees C with pure CO2), and subcritical water (1 h at 250 degrees C, or 30 min at 300 degrees C). Although minor diff...

Extraction and Characterization of Seed Oil from Naturally Grown Chinese Tallow Trees

Seeds were collected from locally and naturally grown Chinese tallow trees (CTT) and characterized for general physical and chemical properties and fatty acid composition of the lipids. The effects of four different solvents (petroleum ether, hexane, diethyl ether, and 95 % ethanol) and two extraction methods (supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) and conventional Soxhlet) on the properties of ...
